MANILA, Philippines—Barangay Ginebra star guard Scottie Thompson put it simply.

The Gin Kings were sorely outplayed in Game 5.

Ginebra moved on the brink of defeat in the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals after absorbing a demoralizing way, 99-72 win on Wednesday.

“They just outplayed us in this game. The key for us right now is to move forward and move on, That’s it. We’re still here for the series,” said Thompson as the Gin Kings fell to a 3-2 hole.

“For us, we have no excuses. They played really well and their adjustments really caught us off guard.”

TNT ballooned its lead as early as the second quarter and Ginebra, famed for its spirited comebacks, simply could not get anything going to pose a serious threat.

Thompson finished with 13 points, four rebounds, and two assists, his backcourt partner LA Tenorio added 13, but the rest of the Gin Kings struggled–including import Justin Brownlee, who was limited to eight.

But far as the former league MVP’s concerned, all they need to do is to “stay positive” in hopes of forcing a do-or-die in Antipolo.

Certainly, Thompson and the Gin Kings know a thing or two about comebacks.

“They’re a well-coached team and their adjustments tonight worked so we’ll leave it to our coaching staff on how to adjust in the next one.”
