La Mesa Dam’s water level is now at 79.39 meters, less than a meter before it reaches its spilling level as of Thursday afternoon, according to the state weather bureau.

MANILA, Philippines — La Mesa Dam’s water level is now at 79.63 meters, a meter short before reaching its spilling threshold as of Thursday afternoon, according to the state weather bureau.

La Mesa Dam’s spilling level is 80.15 meters, and the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) is continuously monitoring the situation, it said in its 4 p.m. bulletin.

Earlier, Pagasa said that residents from low-lying areas along the Tullahan River in Quezon City (Barangay Fairview, Forest Hills Subdivision, Sta Quiteria, and San Bartolome), in Valenzuela City (Barangay Ligon, Barangay North Expressway and La Huerta Subdivision), and Malabon City may experience flooding when the dam overflows.

Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami) has brought heavy rains in various parts of the country, affecting over two million individuals nationwide.

Kristine is now over the coastal waters of Santa Cruz in Ilocos Sur. It was moving west-southwestward at 15 kilometers per hour (kph), carrying maximum sustained winds of 95 kph and gusts of up to 145 kph.
